তোমারে জানি নে হে, তবু মন তোমাতে ধায়।
তোমারে না জেনে বিশ্ব তবু তোমাতে বিরাম পায়।।
অসীম সৌন্দর্য তব কে করেছে অনুভব হে,
সে মাধুরী চিরনব–
আমি না জেনে প্রাণ সঁপেছি তোমায়।।
তুমি জ্যোতির জ্যোতি, আমি অন্ধ আঁধারে।
তুমি মুক্ত মহীয়ান, আমি মগ্ন পাথারে।
তুমি অন্তহীন, আমি ক্ষুদ্র দীন– কী অপূর্ব মিলন তোমায় আমায়।।

You, the light brightest of all                               while I shut my eyes in darkness.
You, the freedom infinite in its grace, while I flounder in this ocean.
You are without end and I have nothing – yet how marvellous our union.

আমার মাঝে তোমারি মায়া জাগালে তুমি কবি।
আপন-মনে আমারি পটে আঁকো মানস ছবি ॥
তাপস তুমি ধেয়ানে তব কী দেখ মোরে কেমনে কব,
আপন-মনে মেঘস্বপন আপনি রচ রবি।
তোমার জটে আমি তোমারি ভাবের জাহ্নবী ॥
তোমারি সোনা বোঝাই হল, আমি তো তার ভেলা–
নিজেরে তুমি ভোলাবে ব’লে আমারে নিয়ে খেলা।
কণ্ঠে মম কী কথা শোন অর্থ আমি বুঝি না কোনো,
বীণাতে মোর কাঁদিয়া ওঠে তোমারি ভৈরবী।

Within me you awaken illusions of your own making

Made from your many moods, I become the Janhavi in Shiva’s matted tresses.
I am the vessel that you must fill with all your treasures,
I am the plaything that you must create for your own amusement.
I do not begin to understand the words that I speak,
For in your hands my soul sings only your songs
And each bud of mine is perfumed unseen by your all embracing love.
