তুমি কোন্‌ কাননের ফুল ,
তুমি কোন্‌ গগনের তারা !
তোমায় কোথায় দেখেছি
যেন কোন্‌ স্বপনের পারা !
কবে তুমি গেয়েছিলে ,
আঁখির পানে চেয়েছিলে
ভুলে গিয়েছি ।
শুধু মনের মধ্যে জেগে আছে ,
ঐ নয়নের তারা ॥
তুমি কথা কয়ো না ,
তুমি চেয়ে চলে যাও ।
এই চাঁদের আলোতে
তুমি হেসে গলে যাও ।
আমি ঘুমের ঘোরে চাঁদের পানে
চেয়ে থাকি মধুর প্রাণে ,
তোমার আঁখির মতন দুটি তারা
ঢালুক কিরণ – ধারা ॥

What garden do you grace sweet flower?
Which sky do you shine from bright star?
Where have I seen you before?
Like a dream that I once chanced upon.
Twas so long ago that you sang to me
As you looked into my eyes
I can no longer remember.
The only memory that still burns bright,
A pair of shining eyes, filled with starlight.
You do not need to speak at all,
I ask for but one glance as you go on your way.
In this sea of moonlight
Your smiles gleam and dissolve.
In the midst of sleep I gaze at the moon
My heart fills with such sweetness,
Would that the stars pour into this night
Like your eyes, a blessing of light.

ভরাব না ভূষণভারে ,     সাজাব না ফুলের হারে –

জানবে না কেউ কোন্‌ তুফানে   তরঙ্গদল নাচবে প্রাণে ,
চাঁদের মতন অলখ টানে জোয়ারে ঢেউ তোলাব ॥

 

I will not beguile you with mere beauty; I would rather conquer you with selfless love

I will not push open the doors to your heart; rather I will serenade you with melody

I will not adorn myself with ornaments bright, not garland myself with flowers perfumed

My love for you shall be the only offering I bring.

No one will know what storms will stir such emotions in your heart

Like the moon in the sky, I will sway from afar the thoughts that swirl through your mind.
